Ali McMordie

Alistair Jardine McMordie is a Belfast born (c.1957) musician, who made his name with, and was a founding member of, Stiff Little Fingers. He was with them from their inception in 1977 to their break up in 1983, and joined them on the first few years worth of reunion tours 5 years later. He left the group in 1983 and formed Friction Groove with a group of Reading musicians who were in a successful local band, Between Pictures. Friction Groove secured a deal with Warner label, Atlantic, and went on to record an album - The Black Box - in Berlin and Brussels, from which the first single (Time Bomb) charted very briefly. Around 1986 he provided, along with other FG members, the core band behind Sinead O'Connor, who had just arrived in London from Dublin. Ali was later sacked. Between 1992 and 1994 Ali McMordie was executive producer for the peace together Irish concert events. after 1994 he has been the bass player and tour manager for American artist Richard Hall AKA Moby, and has his own company ATM or Alistair McMordie Tour Management. On January 23, 2006 it was announced that McMordie was to rejoin Stiff Little Fingers for the duration of their upcoming March tour. On April 26, 2006, it was further announced that he had rejoined the band on a permanent basis, although as he has other business interests, a replacement may occasionally have to be used live. Ali has also been used as the live bassist for Belfast singer-songwriter Dan Donnelly, having played in Dan's live band at the Beautiful Days Festival 2006 in Devon.
