Tourette is a founding member, and frontman of Towers
of London, a punk rock band he formed in 2004, the band
has been performing ever since. To date the band has released one
album; "Blood, Sweat and Towers".
Since its founding, the Towers as they are
known by fans, have attempted to break through in the United
Kingdom, with little success. The band took part in a Bravo reality TV show.
The "rockumentary" follows the band on their quest to make it to the
top, the show includes off-stage footage, as well as following the band
on tour, with major music festival dates and opening for the likes of Guns
N' Roses.
Tourette's band has released four singles to date, three of
which ("On A Noose", "How Rude She Was",
and "Air Guitar") charted in the UK
Top 40. Their highest chart position attained is 30.
On February 12, 2007, Tourette's band released the single "I'm a Rat",
it is their fifth single from their debut album, and the first since
Tourette became more well known in popular British culture.
Celebrity Big Brother
Tourette was the eighth Celebrity Big
Brother 2007 contestant to enter the UK Big
Brother House on 3 January 2007. He made a dramatic entrance by swearing
at the crowd and making rude gestures until he was ushered along the
red carpet by security guards.
The host, Davina McCall, made allusions
suggesting Tourette may have been drunk at the time, saying that he
"smelled like a brewery".
On his first night in the house, Tourette jumped into the Jacuzzi fully
clothed. Later on, Jo O'Meara of S Club
7 pop fame, grabbed the double bed in the bedrooms, but soon
realised that she would be bunking in with Donny, she stated "I'm not
sharing with Donny. I'd rather sleep on the floor. I can't sleep with a
guy like that".
Leo
Sayer offered to swap with O'Meara, but after a while entered
the diary room, saying "Donny's all right, but seeing him sprawled
stark naked is not appealing". In the end Tourette had the bed to
himself.
The house was later divided into "servant" and
"master" quarters with Donny as part of the servant section. Tourette
decided he would rather escape than serve Jade Goody
and family. He scaled the garden wall to freedom after less than 48
hours in the house,
saying "I'm not waiting
hand on foot, on some fucking moron and her family" as he
climbed over.
After Tourette left the house and Goody was brought in, the
viewing figures for Celebrity Big Brother dropped dramatically from 7.1
million viewers to just 2.8 million.
Never Mind The Buzzcocks
On February
7, 2007,
Tourette appeared as a contestant on pop quiz game show Never Mind the Buzzcocks
(Series 20, Episode 2). Donny attempted to be a vocal and outrageous
guest; he disappeared from his seat for a time and was humilated by
host Simon
Amstell when he lit a cigarette towards the end of the show. He also
attempted to make opposition team captain Bill
Bailey and host Simon Amstell the butt of his jokes
but it was pointed out by Amstell that he didn't stand a chance
against these professional comedians.
During the show, footage of the Towers of London
documentary was shown, specifically a scene in which Tourette
aggressively berates his management and claims "I can fucking dick on
the Sex
Pistols! The Sex Pistols don't have shit on me!". After which
he calmly sits down and crosses his legs, as noted by fellow panellist Philip
Olivier. This footage was referenced again, to humorous effect, over
the course of the show in an attempt to humiliate Tourette.
Tourette repeatedly addressed Simon Amstell throughout the
show as "Anstis", apparently mistakenly believing he was former BBC
children's presenter Toby Anstis.
