The band were active between 1986 and 1991. During this period the group released 3 albums and two b-sides / singles compilations. Their John Peel sessions entitled Wolf Flow was released in 1992. Following the split Loop's official studio albums were re-released on their Reactor label.
The band's sound was influenced by Krautrock and No Wave influences and relied heavily on 3 chord riffs. Some of the records featured cover versions of Suicide, The Pop Group and Can tracks. Loop did not fit easily into any category but have variously classified as a shoegazers or indie rock band. During the latter stages of their career the band played at the Reading Festival in 1989.
After the band split, Hampson played with Godflesh,
later formed Main with Dowson. Hampson's Main project
continues although he now releases under his own name.
Hampson's myspace pages refer to friendly pressure to again re-release the Loop albums. No dates have been given.
