Neil Codling (born Neil John Codling, on December
5, 1973, in Stratford-upon-Avon,
England)
is a singer-songwriter and former keyboardist
for the popular English
band Suede. He is the cousin of
their drummer Simon Gilbert. He joined the
band in early 1996 to record their 3rd album, Coming Up
and co-wrote the album's epic centrepiece, 'The Chemistry Between Us'.
For 1999's electronic 'Head Music' album his role become
considerably larger within the band, co-writing many of the albums
songs including the hit singles 'She's In Fashion' and 'Can't Get Enough'. He even
performed lead vocals on several Suede
b-sides - 'Digging A Hole', 'Waterloo' and 'Weight Of The World' and
later played some rhythm guitar during live shows. He was active in the
band until March
23, 2001,
when he quit due to having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
In May, 2005
he played a show featuring his musical project Barry O'Neil
which is a duo comprising him and Harriet Cawley. Subsequently he has
played keyboards on tour with pop singer Natalie
Imbruglia. In April, 2007
it was announced that Neil would play keyboards for two Brett
Anderson solo gigs in Germany - the first time the pair would
be re-united since Neil left Suede in 2001.
