Phil May (singer)

Phil May (born Phillip Arthur Dennis Kattner, 9 November 1944, in Dartford, Kent) is an English vocalist. He is perhaps best known for being the lead singer of the band The Pretty Things, of whom he was a founding member.

May has been a relatively continuous member of the band's line-up, which otherwise underwent many changes over the years, and he was one of the band's main lyricists. He was the main lyricist for the album "S.F. Sorrow", considered by many to be the first rock opera and an influence on The Who's "Tommy" which appeared shortly afterward. Controversy still exists as to which band member had the original idea for the piece.
