Uriel (band)

Uriel were a short-lived English acid rock band formed in December 1967, consisting of Steve Hillage, Dave Stewart, Clive Brooks and Mont Campbell. The band split up, with Stewart, Brooks and Campbell going on to form Egg.

Shortly after Egg had signed to Decca, the foursome were re-united and recorded their sole album in 1969 as a one-off project under the name Arzachel. All members used pseudonyms on the album.

The album was made in a single session in London, and featured heavy use of reverb. The 'A' side has 4 psychedelic cuts, while the 'B' side consists of only two songs, one being a 17-minute jam entitled "Metempsychoses". It was issued on the short-lived Evolution label (also home to the debut by Raw Material), and quickly became a collectors' item. A pirate version is thought to have circulated in the late 70s, and it has been much bootlegged in more recent years.
